My top 10 Brazil
Updated: Aug 30, 2023
We could include a lot of more places, but these are, altogether, my favorite:
1. Chapada Diamantina
Magical and unique place full of mountains, caves, rivers, waterfalls and hippie villages.
2. Northeast Beaches (Alagoas, Paraíba, Ceará, Maranhão States)
The secluded beaches with coconut trees and turquoise waters that we have all dreamed of being. Each beach more paradisiac than the previous one. Actually this is to do a little cheating, given that the Northeastern coast is immense, full of beautiful beaches, and I am including them all here. Some of them can be found in Maragogi, Jacumã, Praia da Pipa or Jericoacoara (this also has a spectacular lagoon).
3. Beaches in São Paulo and Rio States (Ubatuba, Paraty, Trindade)
Virgin and wild beaches with a more rough sea. Ideal for surfers and lovers of the waves, and for amazing walks through that other less known Brazilian forest: the Atlantic Forest.
4. Boat trip on the Amazon River
An authentic adventure sleeping in "rede" (hammock) and watching sunsets that you will never forget.
5. Jungle Tours
Entering the biggest lung of the planet is priceless. You can go from Manaus, Santarém, Belén or other lesser known places in the jungle.
6. Barreirinhas and Lençóis Maranhenses National Park
A village with many natural areas nearby, including Atins and, of course, the Lençóis Maranhenses: dunes everywhere and blue pools in between.
7. Cities and Towns in Northeast Brazil (Salvador de Bahia, Olinda, Natal, São Luís, Alcântara…)
“Sorría, que estamos na Bahia!” (it means "Smile, we're at Bahia!"). Come and enjoy the people, delicious Northeastern gastronomy, art and culture of these beautiful colonial cities.
8. Rio de Janeiro
Lively city in which one feels something special. Its sun, its atmosphere and its people walking in bikini and bathing suit in famous beaches like Ipanema or Copacabana will make your heart beat to the rhythm of samba.
9. Minas Gerais Towns
Beautiful houses, colonial streets and squares and, above all, very delicious food! There are many green areas around, including waterfalls.
10. The Pantanal
Landscapes inhabited by crocodiles, capybaras and thousands of birds await you in one of the most biodiverse regions of the world.
Other special places that are left out of my top 10: Catimbão, Sete Cidades National Park, São Paulo, Brotas, Porto Velho.
Other places that I do not know but are highly recommended: Chapada dos Veadeiros, Chapada dos Guimarães, Florianópolis, Roraima, Belén, Bonito, Curitiba. I have included Iguazu Falls in My top 10 Argentina, since I visited them from its side.
